When Councilman Thomas C. Rooney, Jr. announced his retirement on July 31 there was widespread speculation as to whether or not I would run to replace him in the Sixth Ward. At this time, I would like to put the rumors to rest. I am proud to declare my candidacy for the Sixth Ward City Council Seat.
I appreciate and admire all that Councilman Rooney accomplished for Paterson.
He is a dedicated public servant and I am honored to not only call him my
representative but my friend as well. He will leave behind some big shoes
to fill and I believe that I am more than ready for the challenge. I look
forward to running a professional and efficient campaign.
My record of service speaks for itself. In my 4 years on
the Paterson Board of Education, I have never missed a meeting. I have served
as the Vice President of the board and I am currently the board’s President.
I have been the Chairman of the Curriculum Committee for my entire time on
board and this is an area where our school district has seen the most progress.
We are moving in the right direction in improving our educational system in
the city.
In addition to my experience as an elected official on the
board of education, my time as a field representative with Congressman Bill
Pascrell and as Chief of Staff for Senator John A. Girgenti have taught me
the true value of serving people. Therefore, I do not take anyone or anything
for granted. I am everywhere because I care about everyone.
I am a lifelong resident of the Sixth Ward. The area has a special place in
my heart and the people who live there are by far the best feature of the
ward. We are unique and we must be united!
21st Avenue in the People’s Park section is blessed
with Latino and Italian residents and business owners. South Paterson boasts
one of the highest concentrations of Arab Americans in the nation. The Lakeview
section is home to African-Americans, Caribbean and South Americans and a
multitude of different ethnic groups. Our ward is better because of our diversity.
I have already made many visits to Sixth Ward residents.
They talk about taxes, quality of life issues, education and recreation. Their
concerns are my concerns and together we can address them.
I do not like to make many promises. But I will vow to listen and learn more about the people I would like to represent at 155 Market Street. Thus, my goal is to bring neighbors together!
